The Northeast Generals of the North American 3 Hockey League are excited to announce that Captain Stephen Gerbis has committed to play NCAA DIII Hockey at Morrisville State for the 2020-2021 season.
The Florida native is in his 2nd season with the Generals. In 2018-2019 Gerbis played 43 games and had 12 goals and 26 assists for 38 points as the Generals made it to the Division Finals.
After a great first season Stephen was named Captain for his work ethic both on and off the ice. “Stephen is a great kid. We have a young team and he was such a logical choice to step up and fill the leadership void from the pervious guys. He is always going 100% on and off the ice. There are no shifts off or days off for Stephen. He has helped this young team gel pretty quickly and you can see by the standings and the leading scorers that he has had a huge impact on the organization. Really happy for Stephen. It’s a great accomplishment and Morrisville is getting a great player and person.” Said Generals Head Coach Darryl Locke.
In 2019-2020 Gerbis has been very hot. He currently has 94 points (25 goals, 69 assists) in just 40 games. The 94 point output is good for 2nd in the league in scoring. And his 69 assists has already broken a team record for assists in a season with 7 regular season games to go (and 10th all time in the NA3HL).
Morrisville is part of the SUNY schools in New York and plays in the prestigious SUNYAC conference. The Mustangs currently sit at 8-7 overall and 5-3 in league play. The are in a tie for 3rd place in their conference.
Stephen is the first NCAA commitment of the season for the first place Generals. Many more should follow in the next few weeks as the Division’s top team pushes towards the playoffs.
