Jessman, Giannelli lead Cape Cod over Northeast, 6-3

Behind two goals and one assist from Mike Jessman and one goal and one assist from Anthony Giannelli, Cape Cod downed Northeast 6-3.

Jessman scored the first of his two goals at 2:51 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Cape Cod. Aaron Deady picked up the assist. Jessman\’s next tally made the score 5-3 Cape Cod with 15:56 left in the third period. Cape Cod had taken the advantage when Northeast\’s Alex ODowd got sent off for high sticking. Eric Szeker assisted on the tally. Giannelli scored 14:58 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Cape Cod. Brendan Sullivan picked up the assist.

Cape Cod forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 12.0 minutes per game Cape Cod had been spending in the box. Northeast was unable to stop Cape Cod from sending pucks towards the net, and Cape Cod eventually piled up 46 shots on goal.

Cape Cod also got points from Zack Goodman, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Giannelli, who also had one goal and one assist, and Maxime Dordet, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Chuck Costello also scored for Cape Cod. Other players who recorded assists for Cape Cod were Dan Moore and Chris ODonnell, who contributed one each.

Northeast kept Cape Cod\’s goalie busy throughout the game, and Jonathan Stone made 34 saves on 37 shots.

Northeast was led by Conor Harrington, who registered two goals and one assist. Harrington scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:21 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Cape Cod. Northeast had gained a power play chance when Costello was whistled for hooking. Brendan Collins assisted on the tally. Harrington\’s next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Cape Cod with 3:13 left in the second period. Northeast had gotten the advantage when Cape Cod\’s Sullivan was sent off for slashing. Collins picked up the assist. Northeast additionally got points from ODowd, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Northeast received assists from Kevin Perry, who had one.

Cape Cod registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Cape Cod ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Karl-Eric Demers was ejected from the game.
